The Burlingame Community for Education Foundation (BCE) is a parent managed, non-profit organization focused on raising funds to enhance K-8 education in our local Burlingame public schools. BCE thanks you for helping us reach our $1.3 million goal for the 2012-2013 school year to fund quality instruction, enriched curriculum, and maintaining low K-3 class sizes. These funds will be used for a new district-wide science specialist to enhance the curriculum at all schools. Our strong foundation is critical to maintaining excellence in our school district. Thank you for being part of the solution. You can find more information regarding BCE or to donate online please click here. Please find below the new school year welcome letter from BCE President Emily Beach.
As we dust off our backpacks from summer adventures, our BCE team wishes your family a warm welcome back to school!
Please accept our deepest thanks to the generous donors, businesses, and volunteers who made possible this year's $1.3 million grant to Burlingame School District. Our community's unwavering loyalty to its public schools and students is an important reason we choose to call this beautiful city home.
For 33 years, parents have been empowered to make a difference in the education of their children, and all of Burlingame's children, through their donations to BCE Foundation. Our annual grant provides flexible resources to help Burlingame School District provide a quality education for every kindergarten through 8th grade student when public dollars fall short.
You will be hearing a lot from BCE about 100% donation participation this year, since every district family is a stakeholder in our mission. Every dollar counts. We need your help to raise a $1.4 million grant by June 30, 2014 so that we can sustain current BCE funded programs in 2014-15. For every dollar we raise beyond our $1.4 million goal, our school district plans to fund the following initiatives:
- additional investment in the arts, science, and mathematics
- highly trained instructional aides for grades 4 & 5 to help facilitate differentiated instruction and improve teacher to student ratios
- additional teacher professional development in the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
This is an exciting time in education as California's public schools prepare to implement the new Common Core State Standards next fall. Your donations to our annual campaign and participation in our three major fundraising events (Spirit Run 9/2/13, Read-a-Thon 1/27-1/31/14, Dinner Dance Gala and Auction, 4/12/14) will help ensure our students have the resources they need to succeed.
BCE is a mission-driven organization that is poised for growth and success. Last year the foundation underwent important work by reexamining our mission statement. During the upcoming year, BCE will strive to increase our donor participation rate as well as donations from non-parent sources. We will also update our investment strategy, multi-year financial goals, and investigate the possibility of creating an endowment.
We will keep you informed about our progress, fundraising events, and how you can help through BCE newsletters, our upgraded website, and social media campaign. Our volunteer Board of Directors and Executive Director, Andrea Capozzoli, will build on last year's success and lead the largest volunteer team in BCE's history. I invite you to engage with us, attend our quarterly public board meetings starting on 9/19, and consider joining our team in whatever capacity your interests and bandwidth allows. Every hour you volunteer, every connection you bring to us from the community, every check you write makes a difference for our children.
As my daughter Kate and son Matthew begin 3rd and 1st grade at Lincoln, I am excited to begin my third year on the BCE Board. Our passionate volunteers make it fun, and our children keep us inspired. I feel honored to serve as your BCE president for the next two years as we fundraise to invest in our children's future.
Cheers to a terrific 2013-14 school year and record-breaking BCE annual campaign! See you at the Burlingame Spirit Run this coming Monday, September 2nd.
